Renowned designer Jae Omar drew inspiration from mythology for his latest project, a sprawling 11,400-square-foot mansion known as ‘The Dragon.’ Omar’s design choices were guided by the idea of a dragon ready to take flight, which is reflected in the property’s striking visual elements and narrative throughlines. This is not the first time Omar has successfully incorporated mythology into his designs, as his previous project, the Nordic-inspired Encino mansion Odin, sold for $18.4 million.

Situated in the Pacific Palisades along a canyon, ‘The Dragon’ offers elevated views resembling its mythical namesake. The property sits on nearly a third of an acre and is located less than two miles from the ocean. The home’s front facade features distinct black wooden planks treated with the ancient Japanese technique of shou sugi ban, giving it a unique and textured appearance. The exterior also includes sleek metal panels that subtly evoke dragon scales, rising along the towering structure.

Inside, the residence showcases a bright and vibrant atmosphere that contrasts with its dark exterior. Wood details are prevalent throughout the space, from the walls to the cathedral ceiling, adding warmth and texture to the design. Stonework continues the natural motif, with a two-story book-matched stone waterfall outside the dining room and an angular stone fireplace in the main living area. The interior features seven en suite bedrooms, two dining areas, two living areas, a chef’s kitchen with hidden appliances, a butler’s kitchen, walk-in pantry, wine cellar, and a home theater.

The lower level of the property offers wellness amenities, including a plunge pool, fitness space, and a sauna. Outside, the rear of the property features a covered patio, sculptural stone fire pit, swimming pool, spa, and a spacious lawn. Designed for both relaxation and entertainment, the property is listed for $22 million by David Kramer and Andrew Buss of Hilton & Hyland. Jae Omar’s design philosophy is influenced by the natural world’s delicate balance, with elements in nature serving as inspiration for his work in achieving harmony and interdependence in design.
