LinkedIn’s draft feature exists for one reason: to let you refine your thinking before your network sees it. A post that sits in drafts for a day often reads better than one you publish immediately. You catch unclear phrasing. You remove jargon. You verify your facts.
The catch: drafts only exist on the device where you created them. They don’t sync across your phone, tablet, and desktop. This limitation actually works in your favor if you treat it intentionally—it forces you to commit to a single drafting location.
The Desktop Workflow
I draft everything on desktop. The larger screen makes editing easier, and I can reference multiple tabs while writing.
- Click “Write an article” on your LinkedIn homepage
- Write your first draft without editing yourself
- Save it
- Return 24 hours later
- Edit for clarity, remove filler, verify links
- Publish or schedule
That 24-hour gap catches mistakes your immediate eye would miss.
Extending Your System with Tools
LinkedIn’s native drafting works fine, but tools like AuthoredUp, Hootsuite, or Buffer add value if you want scheduling options beyond LinkedIn’s built-in calendar. These tools let you batch-draft content and maintain a publishing rhythm without manually posting each day.
The trade-off: you’re storing your draft text outside LinkedIn. Pick a tool and stick with it so you develop a consistent workflow.
