Design Philosophy Behind Aston Martin’s First Residences Unveiled by Chief Designer Marek Reichman

Marek Reichman, the Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer of Aston Martin, explains that curves, rather than being geometric shapes, have direction and movement. He compares designing luxury cars to creating Miami’s 66-story Aston Martin Residences building in collaboration with architect Rodolfo Miani of Bodas Mian Anger. The project opened last week after ten years of development, with almost all of its 391 units already sold, except for the $59 million triplex penthouse. About one in eight buyers already owned an Aston Martin car, highlighting the connection between the brand and the building.

German Coto, CEO of G&G Business Developments, describes the Aston Martin Residences as a state-of-the-art building that stands out in Miami’s skyline due to its unique shape and the involvement of Aston Martin in the design process, making it the only building of its kind in the city. The challenge of translating Aston Martin’s signature curve from cars to a massive building required a shift in thinking from the small scale of car design to the large scale of architectural construction. Reichman and his team had to adapt to the different quality levels and design considerations necessary for a building compared to a car.

The design of the Aston Martin Residences began with large-scale sketches that later evolved into intricate details at the millimeter level, similar to the precision of car design. Every aspect of the building was carefully considered, from bookmatched marble in the lobbies to unique door tabs and amenities such as balconies overlooking the Sky Lobby and a ballroom for formal events. Buyers of the penthouses were offered a choice between Aston Martin cars, with the eventual buyer of the triplex penthouse receiving a rare Vulcan as a bonus.

To maintain interest during the six years of construction, G&G Business Developments and Aston Martin engaged artists in promoting the project through various events and exhibitions. The grand opening featured activation events with live performances and displays, reflecting the luxurious and artistic nature of the building. Sold prices for units ranged from $1.5 million to $8.5 million, with penthouses starting at $16 million and going up to $59 million. The team has not announced plans for any future multi-family buildings in Miami, emphasizing the unique nature of the Aston Martin Residences within the city.

Reichman and Miani’s collaboration on the Aston Martin Residences demonstrates the intersection of car design and architecture, with both disciplines sharing principles of form, function, and aesthetic appeal. The meticulous attention to detail in the building’s design reflects the precision and craftsmanship associated with the Aston Martin brand. By incorporating elements of luxury and artistry into the project, the team has created a distinctive residential experience that resonates with buyers who appreciate the elegance and sophistication of both Aston Martin cars and the Miami lifestyle. With a focus on quality and exclusivity, the Aston Martin Residences set a new standard for luxury living in the city.
