Madrid, the capital of Spain, is a vibrant city filled with art, culture, and history. It is home to renowned artists like Miguel de Cervantes and modern-day filmmakers like Pedro Almodóvar. The city’s neighborhoods, including Recoletos, Retiro, Jerónimos, and Salamanca, are known for their designer boutiques and 19th-century boulevards. One lesser-known neighborhood, Colonia de El Viso, offers tranquility and privacy for the discreetly wealthy. Designed in the 1930s by architect Rafael Bergamín, El Viso is a garden city dotted with small houses and lush gardens.

El Viso has a rich history, having been home to Spain’s first cultural center, Residencia de Estudiantes, where luminaries like Albert Einstein and Marie Curie once gathered. Today, the neighborhood boasts some of the most expensive real estate in Madrid, with an average price per square meter of $8,032. It is also the neighborhood with the highest per capita income in Spain, with residents including prominent figures like former Prime Minister José María Aznar’s son and Real Madrid’s president, Florentino Pérez. However, after 16 years, the Serratosa family, one of Spain’s dominant business dynasties, is selling their 1,286-square-meter home in El Viso.

The Serratosa’s home, designed by renowned architect Andrés Rebuelta, features luxurious amenities like a car elevator, heated floors, and a circular pool. The property’s gardens were created by acclaimed landscape designer Fernando Caruncho, adding to its allure. The residence spans four floors, with spacious bedrooms, high ceilings, and modern furnishings. The basement includes space for nine cars, a wine cellar, gym, and entertainment area. The home is energy-efficient, with a state-of-the-art aerothermal system and solar panels on the roof.

The Serratosa’s decision to sell their home in El Viso comes as they look to downsize and simplify their living arrangements. They have fond memories of their time in the home, from cozy evenings by the fireplaces to family barbecues in the gardens. They plan to move to a more convenient apartment as they continue to travel extensively. El Viso’s appeal lies in its proximity to schools, hospitals, and public transportation, making it an ideal location for families and individuals looking for a safe and convenient neighborhood in Madrid.
