A gunman, identified as Bernard Polite, was arrested after pulling a firearm on Pennsylvania pastor Glenn Germany during a sermon at the Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church in North Braddock. The incident was caught on camera, showing Pastor Germany ducking for cover as the suspect brandished the weapon. Germany expressed gratitude for still being alive, as Polite had pulled the trigger but missed. The pastor noticed Polite moving from the back to the front of the church before aiming the gun at him, at which point Germany ran for cover.

During the ordeal, the church’s deacon, Clarence McCallister, intervened by leaping across and tackling Polite, disarming him along with the pastor. They held him down until the police arrived. Polite later disclosed to the pastor that he had seen “spirits” in his mind instructing him to open fire. Germany shared that Polite admitted that he had intended to shoot someone, and even used slang to express that the pastor had avoided getting shot by dodging a “taco.” Despite the harrowing experience, Germany forgave Polite and expressed his love for him, emphasizing the importance of forgiveness.

Bernard Polite is facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault and attempted homicide, in relation to the incident at the church. Additionally, Allegheny County Police are investigating after the body of a 56-year-old man, identified as Derek Polite and possibly related to the suspect, was discovered at the home where Bernard Polite lived, which was located less than half a mile from the church. It remains unclear when Derek Polite was killed, and authorities have not revealed if they have a suspect in that shooting. Reports suggested that the church gunman resided at the same residence with his uncle.

The congregation was left in shock and distress after witnessing the gunman’s actions during the church service. The pastor’s daughter was also present during the incident, adding to the gravity of the situation. Despite the traumatizing experience, Pastor Glenn Germany displayed forgiveness and compassion towards Bernard Polite, stating that he forgave him and expressed love towards the suspect. The incident underscores the unpredictability of violence in places of worship and the emotional toll it can take on both the victims and the community at large.
